Eden Roses in a Silver Basin
These Eden roses I have been growing in my back yard for over a decade. Since the branches reached the second floor of my house, I have to snip them and bring to my studio to paint. I am a devoted practitioner of painting and drawing from direct observation. I challenge myself to work from life on a daily basis.
I strive to capture the very first moment when a subject makes its impression. I use a 26 -color palette and paint in one or multiple sessions, utilizing both, indirect and alla prima painting techniques.
I like to paint the very first moment when nature makes its impression. I visualize the scene in front of me as a decorative tapestry where large areas of colors are blocked in large masses and smoothly blended together. I try to determine the most important information in forms and colors, disregarding details. At the end of the painting session, I highlight the main elements of the composition, applying thick brush strokes, and leave the work at the stage when it looks fresh.
