Magic Hour - Monument Valley
A trip with my PAC6 friends to Monument Valley and a guided "sundown behind the scenes" tour was the inspiration for "Magic Hour". This desert landscape dominated by the bold rock formations of Monument Valley. This desert landscape dominated by the bold rock formations of Monument Valley. The expressive color palette is rich, with warm hues invoking the feeling of a sunset or the intense light of a late afternoon. The sky is painted in a gradient of light to darker blue, suggesting a clear day. Below the sky, the rock formations are highlighted in striking tones of orange, red, and yellow, which stand out against the deep purples and blues used to depict the shadows and crevices within the rocks, adding depth and contrast to the scene. In the foreground, dark and reddish-brown colors are used to illustrate the rugged desert terrain, with hints of a winding path or dry riverbed cutting through it. Patches of vivid yellow at the base of the rock formations look like blooming desert flowers or pockets of glowing light, emphasizing the painting's dramatic play between shadow and sunlight. with warm hues invoking the feeling of a sunset or the intense light of a late afternoon.
