Wake-up Call Sandy's
You never know what to expect weather-wise when you go painting before dawn. What will it be like when I arrive? After picking a spot and setting up, total concentration is mandatory. It’s important to get things right at the start.
In this painting you see the morning side of ‘golden hour.’ The low sun is highlighting the character of the waves, the crispness of the lava rocks and spray of breaking surf. The distance horizon is yet untouched. At most I have an hour and a half of good light before everything changes, so my brushes fly non-stop. The goal was to capture the energy and excitement of the morning waves and the joy of a new day smiling back at me.
