This is a painting of the River Cam from Bridge Street looking towards Quayside and the Scudamore's punting company down the road from where I live.
In Cambridge, the punters stand at the rear end of the punt rather than the front, as is the custom in Oxford. It has been claimed this method was started by women from Girton College who wished to show off their ankles, although I'm not sure how true that is.
