The Climb Ahead

'The Climb Ahead' is a 12"x9" pastel painting on Clairefontaine pastel mat paper. I used Rembrandt pastel sticks and assorted pastel pencils. It was painted from my own photo reference while on a hiking trek at Mt Washington in the Berkshire Mountains, Ma.. The scenery was fantastic during our trek but this specific scene caught my eye. The moss covered stones and petrified wood...I considered the focal points of this scene. Light, shadow, color, depth and composition are the main elements I incorporated into my painting.
