Amber Glow
I captured the reference photo for this painting on a Laguna beach walk at dusk. Warm reflections of the distant sun in the sand contrasted by bold rocks grabbed my attention. Back in my studio I enlarged the wave, subduing it and the background with muted colors and values to enhance the foreground focal area. Painted mostly with a palette knife, laying multiple colors on top of one another develops an impressionistic feel. I enjoyed creating movement and a sense of energy in this small, dynamic piece. "Amber Glow" is painted using archival oils on panel.
