Caution in the Wind

The caution flag made a statement as it waved in the the breeze atop the seagrass mound. The first time I painted this scene was en plein air while standing on the boardwalk in Gulf Shores, Alabama. I captured the essence of the moment through quick study in oil taking a few reference photos as I painted. Back in my studio reworked the composition a bit by moving a few clusters of grass and adding sweeping clouds to lead the viewers eye to the yellow flag. "Caution in the Wind" is painted in archival oils with a thin brushwork to thick palette knife layering technique.
