In landscape painting I find that I am most drawn toward the times of day that are most challenging to paint - when light changes the most quickly and one has the shortest time to capture the feeling of it. I painted this piece en plein air first, coming back at the same time over multiple days. And then I painted a larger version in the studio with my sketch as reference. I enjoyed this challenge of chasing this fleeting golden hour glow.
